There has been an interest shown in pointe work, and so from Sunday 7th September we will begin a very small amount of pointe work, 2.30pm-2.45pm, for those who wish to do it. I know that the interested few have studied ballet to the level of the vocational majors and have done pointe work before, and so if this description fits you, you should be fine. We will be starting very gently, and only for between ten and fifteen minutes. I intend to follow the Cecchetti Course of Study for beginners. You do need considerable strength in the legs, the centre, and the back; and correct alignment is essential too. A good indication as to whether you are ready is your demi-pointe work (ie standing on demi-pointe/executing relevees etc. in normal, unblocked ballet shoes). It should be strong, with good balance and centering, and without wobbles, typically observed in the feet and ankles. Without the required level of strength and alignment injury is very likely. If you are interested but unsure whether you are ready, please ask me.
